Chia flour
Chia flour is made from the Chia (Salvia hispanica) plant, a year-old sage plant that grows up to 1 meter high. Originally from Mexico, Chia is now cultivated in many parts of South America and in Australia. The flowers are blue and form capsules, which coat the seeds. Because of their nutrient richness Chia seeds were already an integral part of the diet of the early civilizations of South and Central America.

ORIGIN of our chia seeds
nu3 Chia seeds come from South America. Due to climatic differences along the north-south axis of the continent they are harvested at different times in the various production areas - so Chia seeds can be sourced for several months straight from the areas harvesting at that time. Regardless of the source region all of our suppliers are subject to strict controls.

PROCESSING our chia seeds to Chia flour
After harvesting, the capsules are threshed, which causes the seeds to fall out. After this, the capsule shells are removed and the seeds are cleaned  and checked for quality. To prepare our Chia flour, the seeds are carefully de-oiled still on site and then finely ground.

The quality of nu3 Chia flour is checked both locally and in laboratory tests.
